The Italian Air Force held a retirement ceremony the Breguet Atlantic from service at Sigonella on September 21, 2017. As part of the retirement MM40118/41-03 was painted in a special colour scheme to celebrate 45 years of service with the Italian military. Although the ceremony was held in September it is believed that the Atlantic will continue to fly operationally until November 2017.

The Atlantic will be replaced in the maritime patrol role by the Alenia P-72A.
