On August 22, 2019 the Portuguese Government signed a contract with Embraer for the purchase of five KC-390 multi-role airlifters.

The contract was signed at the Embraer facility in Évoraand also includes support services and a flight simulator. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2023. The Brazilian Air Force are expected to take delivery of their first KC-390 later this year.
