As part of Switzerland's purchase of the F-35A Lightning II four of the aircraft will be domestically manufactured by armaments firm RUAG. The firm will assemble the aircraft in Switzerland before they are sent to Leonardo's F-35 production site at Cameri in Italy for final acceptance.
The Swiss Air Force is due to take delivery of 36 F-35s between 2027 and 2030 under a contract signed in 2022. The first eight aircraft will be manufactured at the Lockheed factory in Fort Worth with the balance of the order to be assembled at Cameri.
