On October 17, 2019 eleven United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers arrived at Lajes in the Azores on their way home from deployment.
The aircraft belong to Marine Attack Squadron 311 (VMA-311) and are normally based at MCAS Yuma in Arizona. They were supported by three United States Air Force KC-10A Extenders. All aircraft were expected to continue their journey to the United States on October 19, 2019.
