The Royal Australian Air Force had declared Initial Operating Capability with its fleet of new C-27J Spartan transports.

The RAAF has so far received four out of ten C-27Js on order. The aircraft were procured through the US government's Foreign Military Sales programme in a deal agreed in May 2012. After assembly in Italy with Alenia/Leonardo the aircraft are outfitter for RAAF service by L3 in Waco, Texas.

The C-27Js are operated by 35 Squadron which is currently flying out of RAAF Richmond temporarily until permanent facilities are finished at RAAF Amberley (expected late 2017).
